Usually pregnant women give birth in a certain position: horizontal. In some cases, however, the position taken is inclined backwards, which facilitates labor and the work of specialists.
However in the hospital Salnés Pontevedra has been installed some time ago a special team to induce childbirth upright, breaking with the tradition quite normal deliveries.
Basically it installed a system to bear vertically, which also has a bathtub that can stimulate a much greater dilation of the vaginal muscles, to avoid episiotomy.
An episiotomy is the incision in the vaginal muscles thus helping to expand the vaginal canal favoring childbirth. However, this procedure is used in 90% of cases in Spain (especially mothers), but WHO recommends only 15%.
The fact is that if a procedure of this kind allows avoiding episiotomy must be considered as a positive development. And if that can be joined into a more comfortable position when the woman giving birth, it is doubly positive
